What Is Hypnosis?

Have you ever found yourself zoning out to the point where you were completely unaware of your surroundings? Or been watching TV and not heard someone calling your name? Or how about reading a book and forgetting what it was you just read?

If you've experienced any of these things (which of course, everybody has)... then that is hypnosis and you've been hypnotized!

Hypnosis is an altered state of mind whereby we create an intense focus upon one particular thing to the point where everything else around us becomes un-important. This happens all the time when we are driving.

Take a moment right now and think about the last time you drove home from somewhere. What were you thinking about while driving? Where you 100% focused on the road? You might think you were but you likely were not. Watch for this the next time you are driving. Notice how your mind will drift off and think about something else, such as your grocery list, things you have to do, places you need to go, people you need to see. Maybe your mind is re-hashing a previous conversation; thinking about all the things you said or wish you had or hadn't said. This is hypnosis!

There is nothing scary about hypnosis. Stage hypnosis creates a lot of misconceptions about the power the hypnotist has over others. In fact... there is no magic power and there is no mind control.

Hypnosis is a completely safe and natural state of mind. We go in and out of hypnosis about every 90 minutes or so.

Many experts believe that hypnosis is the key to all healing.

Hypnosis allows us to do what we normally could not do. For example, hypnosis assists athletes visualize themselves enhancing their performance. The key to hypnosis is the access to the subconscious mind.

The subconscious mind does not judge and it does not know the difference between pretend and reality. So when an athlete is focusing intently on performing better his subconscious mind gets fixed around the idea of performing exactly as he intends to. Then when the athlete is actually performing the subconscious mind is conditioned around the proper action. Now, this doesn't mean he will physically perform perfectly every time but it does mean he will perform better than he used to on a more consistent basis giving him an edge over his competition.

Hypnosis can also help with many other things...
