Supervised Practicum Sessions
Supervision is a crucial part of the evolution to become a practicing clinician. This course is established to provide guidance and oversight that will help you become a more professional and effective Clinical Hypnotherapist. The healing relationship carries with it inherent responsibilities that go above and beyond the simple knowledge of the correct inductions and the steps of hypnosis. While attaining the basic knowledge across the Clinical Hypnotherapy curriculum the student is not simply memorizing or storing facts but developing a well informed and responsible clinical practice method. Supervision ensures that the transition from student to professional goes smoothly.
Historically such a program was better described and thought of as an apprenticeship. Supervision can be thought of as an abbreviated apprenticeship into the clinical hypnotherapy field. The specific nature of this field demands that we maintain ethical practices and high standards of clinical practice. These include basic practices like proper documentation or ensuring client privacy. But it also includes more complex issues that can arise in the office everyday involving questions of ethics.
This supervision course allows students to practice ‘with training wheels’ with an independent practitioner. This provides the student a forum for seeking guidance, asking questions, and generally knowing they have support as they work with clients. Generally supervision is considered a clinical consultation between an independent practitioner who serves as the mentor or supervisor and an unlicensed student in order to monitor, inform, and guide the manner in which the student provides his or her professional services.
This course offers students an opportunity to gain a greater perspective on their interaction with clients. Supervision also provides an opportunity to gain deeper insights into your own reactions and actions.
According to Alfred Kadushin there are three important elements to this model of supervision. The first is the promotion and maintenance of effective administrative practices. Organized and knowledgeable administration of the professional office promotes strong standards of practice with regard to the administrative issues that enable an efficient, smooth-running practice. The second element of Kadushin’s model of supervision addresses the educational aspect by assuring that each developing clinician awakens to their full potential. The third element is support. The supervisory relationship helps enhance the working relationship between therapist and client.
This course will provide a sacred and confidential forum for discussing any and all the issues the new hypnotherapist may run into in their own practice. This is an opportunity to explore the gifts hidden in the challenges we face when working with “difficult” clients. It also provides and opportunity to celebrate your successes.
