Practicing hypnotherapy requires not only the ability to identify clinical issues appropriately but the ability to discuss symptoms and issues with psychologists and other practitioners. Clear and effective communication among practitioners is necessary for all around client success. Even making accurate and appropriate referrals can be complicated.

I learned that there are certain basic clinical issues that are often brought to a hypnotherapist. A large part of what is crucial for success is an awareness of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM 4 TR). Numerous common clinical issues such as Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Depression, Anxiety, and ADD/ADHD are certain to show up on your doorstep. A successful practitioner must be able to communicate not only with other professionals in professional terms but with increasingly well informed clients.
